I just wanted to point out that the next season of UGC HL, 6v6, and 4v4 starts in approximately 2-3 weeks. If you've been thinking about jumping onto the competitive bandwagon, now is a great time! With the right team, it can be a lot of fun. It is also the best way to increase your TF2 skill, and personally it is my preferred way to play the game. There are a ton of opportunities to join a team, or even form your own.
It should be noted that this is going to be a much more casual season. There will be no medals, playoffs, or roster locks. Just 8 weeks of organized matches.
Here are some relevant deadlines:
Mon, Sept 28th - First match day of S17
Tues. Oct 6th - New Team Sign-Ups Close
Wed. Sept 30th - First match day of S19
Thu. Oct 8th - New Team Sign-Ups Close
Fri. Oct 2nd - First match day of S6
Sat. Oct 10th - New Team Sign-Ups Close
Standard match days are:
HL on Mondays,
6v6 on Wednesdays,
4v4 on Fridays.
I believe default match time for all 3 of those is 9:30 PM EST. You also will probably be expected to play a couple practice scrims during the week. Comp can either be a casual thing or very time consuming. That all depends on your team's preferences.
Want to find a UGC team? Go HERE. I recommend looking for an Iron team if you have not played comp before. Players in Iron are not expected to know anything about competitive play. However, you may be expected to "try out" before a team will pick you up.
If you really feel like you need some experience before jumping in, then hit up TF2Center lobbies. Lobbies are much more enjoyable if you play with friends, however, so we also have an FP Lobby group. (I think anyone can make an announcement in there to gather up some players, but I'll have to double-check that.) We also have FP-based PUGs (Pick-Up Games) on a slightly less frequent basis, since they can be harder to organize.
If you are even remotely interested but still not sure where to begin, please message me! I love to talk about this stuff. I'll probably talk your ear off.
