The year was 1994, and it was a typical summer day in the city of Rannsburg.
Or, at least, it seemed to have been typical.
For, you see, for several years now a conspiracy had been brewing. A team of professional and secretive assassins has been lying in wait for some time now, bent on destroying society by killing off anyone even remotely important and seizing power for themselves.
Their plans have been set in motion today. Eisotopius Palaiologos, the Governor of the State of Cornester, of which Rannsburg is conveniently capital, was found dead on the day he was to host a meeting of special ambassadors from various cities within his state.
The meeting will go on, for the ambassadors are all already in town, but now people are suspicious. They believe the meeting will be a prime opportunity to kill off some of the most important people in the state.
A medic has been dispatched to watch over the meeting and hopefully to prevent anyone from being killed, and a special investigator will also be in attendance to try to resolve things before they escalate.
Unfortunately, these precautions will do no good. These things always seem to dissolve into chaos and anarchy.
Oooooh boy, remember these? It's time for another one!
Someone screwed up in numbering thread titles last time, but at least someone corrected it later on. So, yep, if you go looking for "Mafia 8" in thread titles you won't find it, but I promise you it happened and that this is 9.
Anyways, sign the hell up and come get murdered, yo.
Signups will end Friday, Feb. 24.
If I don't have at least 10 players by then, the game is cancelled.
One day and night will each be 24 hours until the game comes close to ending.
The day will consist of a discussion phase and a voting phase. The discussion phase includes the 24 hours of night plus 12 hours of day, and the voting phase lasts for the remaining 12 hours. Votes will only be counted within that 12-hour period.
The rules are the same as always, except this time I want to specifically ask one thing:
You can edit posts freely since I can't do anything about it if you do, but since I can't see what your post was before you edited it anymore, if you want to change your vote, do it in a new post where you tell me who you were voting for and who your vote is being changed to. That way I'll count your vote properly. If you change your vote by editing the post, there's a pretty good chance I won't notice and I'll count your vote as whatever it was before you edited. So don't let that happen.
Oh and if you want to post your own death when you get lynched, fine. Just tell me in advance otherwise I'll write your death for you.
Here's the list of roles.
Generic civilian. Can't do anything other than vote.
Once per night, can target one person to protect from death that night.
If protecting a person succeeds, protecting that person again will only have a 50% chance of success.
Cannot target the same person twice in a row.
Once per night, can target one person to determine their allegiance.
The Investigator can opt to share information on anyone they've investigated thus far, anonymously, with the VIP. This can only be done at night and information on only one person can be shared at a time.
The same person can be investigated several times, but not twice in a row.
Once, can issue a Pardon to the primary candidate for lynching. Doing so requires the VIP to publicly reveal their role and to relinquish it. This moves the vote to the next most popular candidate and makes it impossible to vote for the previous candidate that day and the next day.
Once per night, can demand to see evidence collected by the Investigator against a person. This will share the Investigator's knowledge of that person with the VIP. This does not count against the once-per-night voluntary share the Investigator can do.
Upon dying or using a Pardon, the VIP role is randomly assigned to any other player, and will stack with any existing role they have. The chance of getting elected decreases for each time one becomes VIP.
A person can only be Pardoned once per game.
Each VIP only gets one Pardon, but if a person becomes VIP a second time they get a second Pardon.
Funny enough, this time the Assassin is the generic Mafia role. They get to vote on Mafia actions but don't do anything else.
The Master is elected among the Assassins on day 1, and retains his position until death.
The Master will always return a false negative when investigated.
On death, the remaining Assassins convene to elect a new Master.
Town wins when all of the Assassins are dead.
The Assassins win when Assassins become VIP three times in a row while outnumbering Town, or when all of the Town is dead.
